Homework (Given on Fridays-Due on Thursdays)
Each student will be assigned homework EVERY Friday: It will be due EVERY following Thursday (during weeks where there is no school on Friday, homework will be given on Thursday and due the next Thursday). This schedule is used in order to give each student extra time/the choice to work on homework during the weekend, if they so choose. It is very important to come to school, especially on these days. Late homework will be accepted for up to one week past the due date, but it will be marked down for EACH day late.
If you are absent the day that the homework is assigned, it is your, the student’s, responsibility to get it from Mrs, Tebon the next school day; even if the student was absent on Friday (when the homework was assigned) it is still due on Thursday (so they will have less time to do the same amount of work). An average week’s homework includes: 70-100 pages of reading per week (students keep on track on their reading logs-these pages can be completed in one day or in segments of time throughout the week); 2 reader response journal entries, and one writing assignment (all completed in homework spiral) Please contact me directly if you have any concerns with this policy. Reader Response Prompts: You need to pick 2 each week and respond (1/2 page each= 1 full page per week) in reading spirals (starting at the BACK for homework). Do you need help? Come on in, after school! I expect 100% from all my students, regardless of reading level, writing experience, etc. Each student will become a better reader and writer in my class, but to do this, they must be reading and writing every day, at levels that are appropriate for where they currently are: I use the reading and writing workshop model to ensure that my instruction is differentiated for ALL levels for ALL students. This class will ask a lot of each student. I find that many of my students at first are reluctant and try to “opt out”, saying “I don’t know,” or “I didn’t do my work because I wasn’t sure.” Asking questions when not sure and trying their hardest is all I ask of them. The worst thing they can do is not try/not do any work at all. I am available after school Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:25pm-3:45pm. They may stay after school with me to work on their homework, finish classwork, ask me questions, or simply stay in order to have a quiet place to work. I will never turn a student away who needs help. I would ask that you please support your child by contacting me if you feel that your child is having a difficult time with any of the work. |
