Reading
Each day, students will be asked to read in class and outside of class for their homework. The amount for homework depends on the individual student's reading page goal he/she set. Most of the students' goals are to read 10 pages a night-of course, it is always allowed to read more!! This should be an attainable goal, because each student is reading an IPICK GOODFIT book (at his/her individual reading level.)
In class, students are asked to complete anchor charts (writing down what we have on our posters in the classroom) to keep in their reader's notebooks. It's important that the anchor chart is completed during class time. If the student is absent, or did not complete the anchor chart, this becomes homework and he/she must complete it as soon as possible with their book that is at home. IF YOU ARE ABSENT, PLEASE PLAN TO STAY AFTERSCHOOL WITH ME THE NEXT AVAILABLE DAY TO MAKE UP MISSED WORK.
The students will also have reading response journal entries they must complete at home, two entries each week. Entries can all look differently, but each entry should be about 1/2 to 3/4 page long (no shorter than a 1/2 page per entry). Below you will find the attached document, which has prompts for journal entries.
Reading Response Journal Entry Prompts (Pick 2 per week)
Our class is standards-based, and will be teaching to the Common Core State Standards. Below is the curriculum links for reading for each grade level:
